adventure caving

Adventure caving can be a whole load of fun. An expedition at Mulu for instance, often involves wading across rivers or streams, swimming through underground rivers, squeezing in between rocks and crevices, and, of course, getting covered in mud! Some of Mulu's caving trips require knowledge of abseiling and climbing.

Most popular caves have been equipped with fixed ropes on short descents, climbs and traverses and climbing ropes. Anyone planning to do a series of adventure caving trips is advised to bring their own equipment.

Wind Cave
You can start your caving journey in Sarawak cave exploration with the nearest and the easy reached cave...the Wind Cave. Wind Cave is part of the Wind Cave Nature Reserve located in Bau District south of Kuching City.

The journey took 1 ½ hour drive from Kuching City and ½ hour from Bau Bazaar. Plankwalk were being built both outside and also inside the cave. Torches are required for exploring the interior of the cave as the cave are not equipped with lighting system.

Fairy Cave
While you at Bau District you can also check out the Fairy Cave which took ½ hour journey from Wind Cave Nature Reserve. Fairy Cave got its name form the various rock formation that resembles birds and animal. You required torches to explore the interior of the cave.

A proper stairway have been built to make the cave more accessible and also convenient to the cave visitors. A series of concrete walkway were also built both on the way up into the cave entrance and also inside the cave interior. Beside the various strange rock formation...you can also came across alters built by the Chinese community from nearby area.

Niah Cave
Sarawak also have its own prehistorical story. Niah Cave located within the Niah National Park, situated in Miri district is a archeological site. The earliest human remain was found here and prehistoric cave painting adored the cave wall.

Beside the historical significant of Niah Cave,it is also the source of bird's nest, the famous Chinese delicacy. It is also home to thousand of bats. There are accommodation available at Niah National Park.

Mulu Cave
Mulu Cave is located within the Gunung Mulu National Park, a world's Heritage. The impressive cave network stretches some 200 kilometers through the hill.

Just to name a few among the popular and famous caves within the network Chamber are, Deer Cave and Clearwater Cave. There are also other equally spectacular and amazing caves within the network that worth exploring and some are yet to be explore and marked.

There are other caves in Sarawak that are yet to be explore and make known to the public. Some of these caves are only known to the local community living in the surrounding area.

Sarawak cave exploring is a wonderful and fun filled activities. You might stumble an unexplored route or new species of cave dwellers. To ensure that you have a safe and accident free Sarawak cave exploring adventure, so do prepared the required caving equipments and ensure that you engaged an experienced tour guide.

Mount Santubong  
Most popular and the favoured site for beginners mountain climber  and as the climb can be done in a day. There are many accommodations available nearby. Damai Puri Resort and Spa, Permai Rainforest Resort, One Hotel Santubong are among them. These hotels also include climbing Mount Santubong in their outdoors activities.

The trails at Mount Santubong are color coded and well marked, equipped with rope rails and ladders. The initial journey is easy as you climb through dense tropical rainforest with different varieties of tree species and also wild flowers. As you get higher up the mountain, the ascent become steeper and the vegetation types slowly changes.

Mount Serapi
The journey to the summit take about 3 to 3 ½ hours from the Park headquaters. Mount Serapi is one of Kubah National Park's most popular walk. Mount Serapi housed the Telecommunication Tower for Sarawak.
Your journey to the summit is worth it as you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Kuching City, Mount Santubong, the coastline of the south-west Sarawak and also the mountain peaks that mark Sarawak border with Indonesia. If you would like to view the wonderful sunrise and sunset, camping at the summit would be the best option.

Mount Penrissen
Located in the Penrissen area is easily reached via Borneo Highland Resort and club. The journey through dense jungle and across stream takes two days to and fro. You are advise to engaged the service of experience guide or a local who know the area well as the route are not well. Borneo Highlands Resort include Mount Penriseen climbing as one of their outdoor activities that are being offer to their guest.

The routes to the peak are lined with varieties of fruit trees and also other trees species and if you're lucky you might spot some animals along the way. Be prepare adequately with food, drink and also a change of cloths as the journey is an overnight clim.

Gunung Mulu
Located within Gunung Mulu National Park is among the most popular and also the most challenging climb. It should be attempt with the service of experience guide and also with good fitness level. The journey to the summit takes about four to five days along the Head Hunter Trails. There are number of wooden huts being built along the trail to provide shelter for overnight stops.

The journey will take  you through dense tropical rainforest, across streams and overs hills. As you reached to the summit, you'll be rewarded with the stunning view of needle pointed sharp limestone rock or the Pinancles. This climb should be attempt in a group and with the service of experienced guide.

Rainforest Kayaking
Treat yourself to a fun filled kayaking adventure in some of the most beautiful natural settings in Kuching! Paddle leisurely from the upper reaches of Sungei Sarawak. Savor the sights of unique limestone formations and towering riverine trees while enjoying the peace and tranquility of the rainforest. Discover the fascinating carnivorous pitcher plant Nepenthes in their natural habitat. Get to know some local herbs, spices, vegetables and fruits in a native Bidayuh village. Take a cool dip and have your packed lunch on a sandy bank. Ends at Kpg. Semadang, Borneo Highlands.

Borneo Highlands Orang Utan kayaking adventure
Start the adventure with a visit to Semengoh Wildlife Center to see the Orang Utans at feeding time. Then proceed to paddle downstream from Kpg. Bengoh to Kpg. Semadang with breaks along the way for photo takes, fun swimming and lunch. Behold the sight of massive limestone formations and picturesque mountains riddled with caves. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and soak in the serenity of the lush rainforest! Make a stop at Kpg. Danau, a friendly Bidayuh village and check out the carnivorous Pitcher plants and some native plants and herbs.

Rainforest Kayak, Semengoh Orang Utan & Annah Rais Longhouse Adventure
See the Orang Utans at SEMENGOH WILDLIFE CENTER, followed by a visit to ANNAH RAIS LONGHOUSE. This 80 doors Bidayuh longhouse is nestled in the foothills of the scenic Penrissen mountain ranges which separate Sarawak from Kalimantan Indonesia. The longhouse is estimated to be around 200 years old and one can still see some prized human skulls in the ceremonial hut. Mingle with the natives and learn about their culture. See carnivorous pitcher plants and other native plants and crops near the village. Continue your adventure on KAYAK through the lush tranquil rainforest with stops for swim and picnic lunch on sandy banks. See interesting limestone formations and picturesque mountains as you drift leisurely down stream. This unique experience ends at Kpg. Semadang. left.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

For mountain bike enthusiasts, Sarawak is mountain bike haven! Enter the annual mountain bike competitions The Rainforest Cup, held in Kuching at the nearby beach resort of Damai and the Battle of Borneo at Mulu. Described as a biker's dream, warm up by blazing the Sikoh Trail near Kuching. The technical single involves a number of water crossings and leads to a small waterfall. Two trails are accessible from Bau, the scenic Bratak Trail and the Kampung Opar trail with fast fire roads and screaming downhill! For the adventuresome, just 100 km from Kuching, the Penrissen Highlands, near the Indonesian border is dotted with longhouses and villages, all linked by tracks that are largely unridden.

This is considered a difficult track whereby concentration must be maintained despite the spectacular views afforded at some of the tracks locations. Just outside Kuching is the Sikoh Trail that is less challenging with some water crossings that eventually lead to a small waterfall. Another annual mountain bike race of note in Sarawak is the Battle Of Borneo at Mulu which is also a challenging ride.

rEGATTA

Indeed Sarawak has a water sport history dating back to 1872 when the 29th February saw the first ever Sarawak Regatta held on the Sarawak River in Kuching & in doing so saw the advent of a cultural & Sarawak sport tradition that continues to this day.

The Sarawak Regatta programme include races for traditional longboats & dragon boats with all the local indigenous Sarawakan peoples proudly entering the highly coveted competition that also attracts teams from other regions of SE Asia.

Over 300 teams fielding in excess of 6,000 participants annually take to the river to test their aquatic prowess in the Sarawak Regatta with races using boats in the following categories; Balok Boat, Bidar Boat, Kenyalang Boat, Tambang Boat, Kayaks and the ever exhilarating Jet Skis.
